Google Coding Carnival

Google wanted to highlight their support of computer science education with a family-friendly presence at the Iowa State Fair. We developed two games: Corn Catcher and Cookie Scoop, to engage kids and teach sequence coding basics. Players enjoyed the games’ tactile controls, custom sounds, and retro 8-bit style.

I initially supported the team by conducting visual research, moodboarding, and developing concepts. Later I sourced reference imagery for the 8-bit style, and created the first draft of the interface. I wireframed the user journey and built graphic assets (including the title marquees). In production, I managed the graphic matrix and assisted user testing. Finally, I provided design support at install and witnessed the games in action!

Keeping computer science playful. Our games had 9,300 plays over 11 days!
